What personal data we collect and why we collect it

We may collect personal identification information from you. This may include, but is not limited to, your name, email address, phone number, etc.

We will collect this information if you register online or place an order for any of our products or services, complete a voluntary survey, sign up for a newsletter, or, via your browser’s cookies, when you use this website.

Cookies

Cookies are text files placed on your computer to collect standard internet log information and visitor behaviour information. When you visit our website, we may collect information from you automatically through cookies or similar technology.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

You can set your browser not to accept cookies, and you can remove cookies already downloaded by your browser (the website below can tell you how to do this). However, in a few cases, some of our website features may not function if you choose not to accept cookies.

Newsletters

Our newsletters are powered by Mailchimp.

When you sign up to receive our newsletters, they will be provided by emails via Mailchimp. Mailchimp’s service automatically places single pixel gifs, also known as web beacons, in these emails. These are tiny graphic files that contain unique identifiers that enable Mailchimp and Cast Iron Books to recognize when their contacts have opened an email or clicked certain links. These technologies record each contact’s email address, IP address, date, and time associated with each open and click for a campaign. Mailchimp use this data to create reports for us about how an email campaign performed and what actions Contacts took.

Visit this page on Mailchimp’s website to read their cookie policy.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form. We also collect the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.

If you leave a comment you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. You should familiarise yourself with Gravatar’s privacy policy, which governs your usage of this service. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
